Dear Editor,
Thank you to the Falls Church News-Press and Falls Church Education Foundation (FCEF) for recognizing my entry for the 2018 FCEF Gala & Auction theme. I proposed “Lights, Camera, Action” to encapture the sophistication and glamour of the movies, but more importantly, to highlight the spirit of action that makes our Falls Church community unique. Residents of Falls Church City have historically maintained a high level of engagement with civic, geopolitical, non-profit and other important issues that need our attention. It was my hope with this theme that residents will be inspired to continue, begin, or increase support for the many worthy causes in our little city. I challenge each of you to assess where your talents, time, and resources might make a difference - by attending or sponsoring auction items for the FCEF Gala & Auction; volunteering or participating in the Run for the Schools; supporting our local businesses and retail community; sustaining environmental and eco-initiatives; volunteering with the Falls Church Homeless Shelter; joining or assisting with our various civic organizations; contributing to Falls Church arts and humanities by attending First Friday events and local theater productions; running for school board or office (or becoming familiar enough with the platforms and agendas of potential leaders to cast an informed and educated vote), to name a few. My husband and I support the FCEF Gala & Auction every year. 2018 will be no different. I will be donating the tickets I won to a teacher and his or her guest, and my hope is that this year’s theme will inspire others to take action - whether great or small. Together, we can continue to build on the spirit of progressiveness of our Falls Church community. With optimism, creativity and generosity, we can work together to achieve and sustain a future of excellence. Thank you again. Sincerely, Stacey Nahrwold Comments are closed.
